A 2004 memoir by Howell Peebles of his hospitalization at the 21st General Hospital in France, 1944-1945. The role of German nurses and German POWS at the hospital is a major subject of the short narrative. Other short memoirs are of acquaintances of undergraduate and US Army training, and encounters with the name Ravenel in World War II, 2006. With the memoirs are photocopies of selections from the James H. (Howell) Peebles military service record and other memorabilia and graphics pertaining to the Ravenel Hospital installation, Mirecourt, France. A layout of his ward is included along with the menu for Christmas dinner, 1944, where German patients and staff sang Christmas carols.
